About St Faith's

St Faith's Church

St Faith's Church is one of the two smaller churches in St Mary's Parish. It is in the Landport area, not far from the shopping centre in Commercial Road, at the end of Crasswell Street where the road turns a corner into Charles Street. It is easily recognised by its small ‘minaret-style’ bell tower, and its curved glass entrance right on the street.

The church was built in the 1950’s after a previous St Faith’s was damaged beyond repair by wartime bombing. A recent building project has brought the building very up-to-date with a spacious and light-filled worship area, a large meeting room, excellent kitchen and toilet facilities, and full disabled access throughout. The newly-built office near the entrance serves both St Faith’s and the wider Parish.

St Faith’s has strong links with the local community, and with the nearby schools, Arundel Court Infant School, and Arundel Court Junior School. We are very much looking forward to the new Community Centre opening next to the church, and to new neighbours moving in to the flats above it, once the building is completed. The new community centre will continue to be run by a local association made up of residents and representatives of local organisations, including St Faith’s. We have close links too with the residents in sheltered accommodation at Nicholson Gardens, where we hold a service every month on a Sunday afternoon.

As well as our main service on a Sunday morning, we have midweek services at regular times (see Times of services). Worship with an emphasis on healing take place on a number of Sunday afternoons throughout the year at 4pm. Our regular services are centred on the Eucharist. We have a choir and new members are always welcome.

Children have the opportunity to meet during the Sunday morning service in Sunday Club, joining the main congregation for the beginning of the service, and coming back into the church from the Barnabas room to be part of Communion. Once old enough, children are encouraged to become altar servers if they wish, and all children and young people over the age of 8 can be part of the Parish Youth Group, the Three Saints.

The 48th St Faith’s Scouts Group, including Beavers, Cubs and Scouts meet weekly in the Barnabas Room on Wednesday evenings, and once a month the Sunday morning Eucharist takes the form of a Church Parade Service with the uniformed groups playing an active part.
