Melanie Stephenson, Soprano, accompanied by Karen Kingsley on the Piano, perform an afternoon recital of favourite music including Lieder, Operetta and English Art Song. The programme starts with the assertion that the only pure, true love is found in Jesus. There are then songs about finding love on Earth – starting at night (remembering, being tormented, anticipating), and then the daytime (troubles and triumphs). The recital follows a day, starting and ending with the moon. It ends optimistically! The programme includes:

Nulla in mundo pax sincera – Vivaldi
Clair de Lune – Faure
Die Lotosblume – Schumann
Das Verlassene Magdlein – Wolf
Rheinlegendchen – Mahler
Sogno d’infanzia – Bellini
Piano solo – Ophelia’s Song – Maconchy
‘Tis done! I am a bride – Sullivan
Sweet Chance that led my Steps – Head
My true love hath my heart – Parry
The Sun whose rays – Sullivan

Admission free. Retiring collection in aid of the St Mary’s Music Foundation, which supports young people from the area in developing their musical skills. Concert lasts about an hour. Refreshments served afterwards.
