Holiday season seems to have arrived at Saint Wilfrid’s, with many of you either on holiday or have recently returned from hot and sunny climes. It has been lovely hearing your holiday stories, including throwing in the comment ‘it really was too hot!’ It is very kind of you to have brought the weather home with you … but as I write this article am finding that it really is a bit too hot! (Not complaining, honest!)

For me, one of the highlights from June was the confirmation of Holly and Hannah. It was good to know they were surrounded by their family and many friends at the Cathedral. I am sure we will always remember their younger brother Rhys thinking the Bishop was a King because of the large hat he was wearing! The next day, Father Bruce was on hand to ‘welcome’ them during the service in church. They have been very touched by the prayers and support they have received in the past few weeks.

We had a successful Coffee Morning at the beginning in June. Although we did seem to be fewer in number, it didn’t prevent us having a good time! The quiz seemed slightly trickier than usual but we battled on regardless! The morning raised £48.40 for church funds and £16.10 for the Parish Mothers’ Union. June’s charity lunch was also in aid of church funds and raised £76.60. Many thanks to all who supported these events and to those who prepared for them. Our next charity lunch is on Thursday 10th July, be lovely to see you there!

Plans are in hand for this year’s Parish Mothers’ Union Concert on Wednesday 5th July at 7.30 p.m. It is always a popular event and we hope that you will be able to join us for the occasion. Tickets are available from Kathy Prior or on the door.

On Sunday 16th July there will not be a service at Saint Wilfrid’s as there is a Parish Mass at Saint Mary’s with Bishop Christopher. Please make a note of this and make every effort to join with the parish for what I’m sure will be a special occasion!
